Treasures 2008_26

We can invent only with memory.
- Alphonse Karr

These are my Treasures for the past fortnight. Hedgehogs

  • pastry hedgehogs at Dim Sum

  • a trumpet tree — red trumpet vine growing 30-feet up through two hemlock trees

  • someone's ringtone: the 1812 overture!

  • 8-bit tarot

Weekly Wrap-up 2008_26

The hot weather broke last Saturday but it's been hazy and smoggy since then. There have been fires burning to the north and down the coast. Nasty.

California has been issued an emergency declaration and federal agencies have been ordered to assist in the firefighting efforts. Fire officials announced full containment of the Napa-Sonoma wild fire on Wednesday.

Most of the fiires were apparently caused by lightning.

We stopped at OSH before dinner last Saturday and bought a roll of turf. The kitties' lawn needed to be rejuvenated. The kitties were loving it to death. ...

Weekly Wrap-up 2008_25

Another hot week, starting Wednesday. This is going to be a warm summer. By Friday it was 87 in our living room. I turned on alll the ceiling fans, opened all the windows, and drew the blinds on windows that don't open. The cats melted into various furry puddles.

We had Dim Sum on Sunday with friends from the East Bay. They agree with us that the Hong Kong Flower Lounge in Millbrae has excellent Dim Sum.

Good food. Too much food. Full to bursting but happy.

Something new this time - pastry hedgehogs! Three of them, artfully "carved" with prickles and two black sesame seeds for eyes. Nestled on a plate of deep-fried rice noodle "grass".

Fun with TWiki: I worked out some interesting tricks with INCLUDEs for table rows this week - how to create a table from which individual rows can be pulled to stick into other tables. ...

Weekly Wrap-up 2008_24

The weather was warm for several days. The fog and wind are back now.

As of June 12, I have been at this Job for 2 years. That's the longest at any Company since 1997 and the longest in a particular job since I'm not sure when.

I've been wandering through Twitter, exploring. I found several new people to follow, including @Raqhun, @BluegrassPoet, and @Judith12. Lyrical people. ...

Treasures 2008_24

The moon smiles in the heavens, and quietly hides all our tomorrows like a secret. But ordinary moments bring their promises, for beauty and warmth are found in single moments of time.
-- Flavia

These are my Treasures for the past fortnight.

  • Another customer at the diner was served a scrumptious-looking waffle with strawberries and a small Matterhorn of whipped cream. Oooooo.

  • 3 ravens in our backyard, flapping from tree to tree. Bebop was entranced.

Are you following the Mars Phoenix in on Twitter? 19,000 people are!

Tonight, go outside and look up at the crescent moon. That "star" just above the moon isn't a star, it's Mars. I'll be waving :)

Sometime back, Rich and I were shopping at Beverages and More and I picked up a collection of various "sodypop" drinks. This week, Rich opened "Capn Eli's Bllueberry Pop". Wow. It's Very Blueberry. Quite tasty. We need to get some more of that. ...

Search Magic - Impress and Delight Your Friends

A co-worker IM'd me

"Can TWiki show me all of the pages I've created? I started a Hack Day retrospective and now I can't find it and I don't remember what I called it."

Well, yes, it can... but that's slow and at this time of day, it will fail. Hang on a moment.

clickety click

Is this the page you're looking for?

Coworker: "Wow. Thanks!"

Twitterings - May 2008

These are my Twitter entries for May, 2008

  • @strawpoll - sometimes half empty, sometimes half full, maybe just bigger than it needs to be. It depends on the day and what's in my glass. May 01, 2008

  • Weird bugs in twhirl. It supports multiple accounts, but forgets the second every time. I'm getting tired of reopening and reconfiguring. :( May 02, 2008

  • Second twhirl problem. It can't run under two Mac OS X accounts at the same time. It crashes. Not so for other apps. Maybe an Adobe AIR bug? May 02, 2008

  • @strawpoll - 2. my email preference is and has always been for a desktop client. Though, I must admit web clients can be handy on occasion. May 05, 2008

  • Synchronicity - @strawpoll recently asked: Is the glass half full or half empty? Half of respondents answered each way. 50:50 half 'n half. May 05, 2008
