Weekly Wrap-up 2007_21

The weather was alternately gray and sunny.

Our group at Work was supposed to move this week, but now that's on indefinite hold, so I don't have to pack...

Rich had minor surgery to repair a small hernia this week. They do this as an outpatient procedure now. One of the nurses told Rich that, when she started doing this (10 or 20 years ago), he'd probably have been in the hospital for a week. Yeeps! ...

Treasures 2007_21

Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life. — Rachel Carson

Treasures are positive things that strike my fancy, that make me feel happy or thankful or interested. Treasures are memories encapsulated in just a few words. These are my Treasures for the past week.

Weekly Wrap-up 2007_20

The weather was pleasant.

Rich and I installed black sticky-back foam sheets in our tv cabinet to reduce the glare from the screen. They work quite well.

My Dad had minor surgery this week. Mom wrote to say he's feeling good and they were going out to dinner. ...

We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.

Empowered Teams

In today's commentary, I discuss Empowered Teams. Companies fear empowered teams. Employee empowerment represents the end of management as we have known it. That cannot happen too soon for me.

Weekly Wrap-up 2007_19

We had a brief heat wave this week. It lasted for two days.

Rich and I tried a new restaurant called Au's Kitchen. They opened this week. It's Cantonese Chinese, quite good. The wontons in the Wor Won Ton soup are more like siu mai. Very solid, packed with pork and shrimp, the wonton wrap simply holds everything together; very good. There are some unusual things on the menu. The lemongrass porkchop was tasty. ...

The weather was typical for spring, varying sunny days with rainy ones.

Treasures 2007_18

I long to put the experience of fifty years at once into your young lives,
to give you at once the key to that treasure chamber every gem of which
has cost me tears and struggles and prayers,
but you must work for these inward treasures yourselves.
- Harriet Beecher Stowe

Treasures are positive things that strike my fancy, that make me feel happy or thankful or interested. Treasures are memories encapsulated in just a few words. These are my Treasures for the past week.

  • Family - My parents, sister, and brother-in-law. Rich's Dad and stepmother, brother and sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and nieces.
May those who are healthy remain so.
May those experiencing setbacks conquer these without complications.
May those facing surgery regain their health quickly and without difficulty.
Virtual hugs are yours. We're thinking of you!

Wide Screen Monitor

We've moved our Mac mini into the living room and connected it to our new Sharp LCD monitor. Wow.

Rich ran an Ethernet cable from the hub (in his office) to the living room. The wire goes down through the floor, across the garage ceiling, and back up through the floor in the living room.

We bought a wireless Apple keyboard and a wireless Kensington mouse (we like Kensington). Now we can sit on the couch and use the computer. The mini itself tucks right under the edge of the screen.. The Electric Sheep are quite awesome. It's all great fun.
