E is For...

E is For...

  • Eccentric - Blessed are the Cracked, for They Shall let in the Light.

  • Eggs - What an amazing thing is an egg. The eggshell "breathes" (lets air in and out). An egg can turn into a chicken... or an omelet. Egg whites whip into fluffy mounds. Add sugar and bake, et voila! - meringue. My family used to gather around the kitchen table every year to decorate Easter Eggs. Scrambled, poached, fried, sunny side up (aka "dippy eggs") or over easy. Eggs are an equally fine choice for breakfast or a late-night snack. Egg salad makes a wonderful quick sandwich (especially, served warm on freshly toasted sourdough).

  • Eggnog - Don't forget the eggnog during the winter holidays, with a sprinkling of freshly grated nutmeg.

Weekly Wrap-up 2006_25

The weather was warm this week, with two Spare The Air days on Thursday and Friday. The first three Spare The Air days of the summer are "free transit" days so I saved money on riding the train.

This was my second week at the Job. I like the people. The lunches are good. I'm still using Windoze. The commute takes too much out of me. ...

Treasures 2006_25

Our treasure lies in the beehive of our knowledge.
We are perpetually on the way thither,
being by nature winged insects and honey gatherers of the mind.

-- Friedrich Nietzsche

Treasures are positive things that strike my fancy, that make me feel happy or thankful or interested. Treasures are memories encapsulated in just a few words. These are my Treasures for the past week.

  • SATURDAY. Cats in my office. No job to go to. Nothing required of me.

  • Catching up — on my email, the comics, my Journal, my weblog, my sleep!

  • Napping with Squirrel.

Weekly Wrap-up 2006_24

The weather was nice for most of the week but hot on Friday. The train station parking lot was an oven when I stepped off the shuttle on my trip home.

I took the train to my Job every day. I put in 40 billable hours and 10 non-billable commute hours. ...

Hit The Ball, Drag Fred

There's a joke that Rich and I like. A man is telling his friend about a recent golf game.

Man: I was playing a round of golf on Saturday with Fred. Fred keeled over on the 13th hole!

Friend: That's terrible! What happened?

Man: Well, I still shot two under par. But it was awful. For the next five holes, it was "Hit the ball, drag Fred."

I started a new contract on Monday. ...

"A paranormal screwball comedy adventure. Light, happy, fantastically funny!" —Jennifer Crusie, author of Bet Me

The weather was very pleasant - summer on the SF Peninsula.

I have a contract starting next week. It was going to start this coming Wednesday, but they've postponed. So I get two more days of freedom. (Note the dual meaning of the word "freedom". It's free because there's no money involved. Sigh.) ...

After The Interview

In today's commentary: Interviews can cause enough stress while they are in progress. But when I get the polite "no thank you", my stress meter can go off the scale. My first thought is: Did I do something wrong? My second thought is usually "What did I do wrong?!"

If you enjoy a finely-crafted and well-plotted mystery, I heartily recommend Clare Curzon's "Thames Valley" series featuring CID Superintendant Mike Yeadings and his ertswhile team. Five Things

I found this a few days ago and decided to respond.

Back in March, blogger Laume wrote:
