Dreaming of Shoes

The weird "logic" of the dreaming mind...

First, let me say that I am not a person who goes barefoot. I occasionally walk around the house in socks. But I haven't gone barefoot (outside or indoors) since I was maybe 9 years old.

Nevertheless, one of the dreamplots on my regular playlist is "I have left my shoes behind and am now somewhere, outdoors, barefoot".

We are not here to debate the fundamental psychological aspects of this dreamplot, however, but to look at one particular instance: last night's version.

There I was (in the dream) walking down the street, barefoot. No shoes to hand. It was cold. It was raining. There may have been snow.

And in this dream, I said to myself:

If this were a dream, I could try to 'make' shoes by thinking of them. That rarely works, even in my dreams, but at least I could try...

Sigh. "If this were a dream..."

Dear self: In the future, if you find yourself walking outside in the cold rain with no shoes, the smart money says It's A Dream.

But I was right about one thing; I'm not adept at making shoes out of nothing, even in my dreams.
