Weekly Wrap-up 2008_30

The weather has been cool in the mornings, warm in the afternoons.

We tried a new Halal restaurant for dinner on Sunday night. Saturday was their first day open. They'd had a lot of customers. They were running out of food!

The waitress needs to learn the menu better and she didn't add up the bill correctly. But the food was tasty. The lamb shwarma was really yummy, better than what we've had most places.

We'll give them a week or two to get settled and go back.

Rich suggested we stop by the trail on the way home on Monday night and take a half hour walk. So we did. Much fun but, Ouch. My left foot wants to start a blister. I soaked it when we got home.

Tuesday was the Tweetup in Half Moon Bay. I offered a fellow Twittterer, @creativesage a ride. I picked her up at BART about 4:10 (perfect timing) after filling up the car with gas. We were back at the house at 4:20. Rich got home 10 minutes later and we headed to HMB.

It was foggy in Pacifica but clear and pretty in HMB. We found the Ritz Carleton and handed the car over to the valets.

Wow the place is HUGE. With a tremendous view. It's right on the edge of the ocean. Just. Wow.

We were half an hour early, but so were some other people. I met Shel Israel and Ryan Kuder and @britneymason. (He says it's a very long story. :)

I ordered a Ginger Ale. There was talk. @pistachio arrived, said hello, and went away again, saying, "I'm chained to my laptop in another room."

Then we saw some people gathering downstairs so we paid for the drinks (and the parking) and headed down to the outside patio.

More people arrived. We were a bit crowded together because there was a conference at the hotel today and they were setting up for the dinner so we had to stay out of the main part of the patio.

Rich found a nice seat facing the ocean and opened his book. I wandered around and listened to conversations and introduced myself to people I follow in Twitter.

I met Kathy Sierra and Stowe Boyd and Robert Scoble and @GeekMommy and a bunch of other people. I was in the right place at the right time for a Seesmic t-shirt.

At 7:30 the party started to break up. Rich and I headed out front to redeem the car. People were talking about going into HMB for dinner. We decided to join them.

Dinner was good. I've never had deep-fried batter-dipped salmon as Fish 'n Chips before. No desert, although we were tempted. I said "We still have to drive home and I don't want to be over-full". Good thing too.

We got home about 10:30, fed the cats and fell into bed. The difference between introverts and extroverts is so true. Introverts like meeting people but being with a lot people is exhausting. Fun, but exhausting.

Wednesday night was Beer and Scripting (and Pizza) night. Another night out with people. Oooh. Social!

There were 6 people including us (one arrived very late). Pizza, salad, and cheesy pesto garlic bread. Desert across the street. Conversation. Another late night getting home. (Crash.)

Thursday and Friday we stayed in!

I spent an hour or so this week giving a TWiki demo to an intern in another team: What can be done with TWiki apps and forms?

He's putting together a documents index. He was impressed by the possibilities.

A co-worker uses "sporked" as a descriptive term.

He says a spork combines the worst qualities of both (spoon and fork) with the functionality of neither. Great word.

I finally found Mezzaluna's collar! She lost it over a week ago and we've been looking in, on, under, and behind things since then.

It was between the two desks in my office. I needed to plug the laptop into the power strip and there it was on top of the power strip. Good grief. I don't use that power strip much. How long might it have been till we found the collar?

This week I finished Watch Your Back, a Dortmunder novel by Donald Westlake.

In between and around the rest, I've had nearly enough naps and oodles of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've chatted with my sister and found topics to twitter.

Onward and Upward.
