Weekly Wrap-up 2008_28

The weather was hot again. I'm betting this is one of the warmest summers on record. It's certainly the hottest we can remember and we've been in this house 20 years.

I had a lovely holiday 3-day weekend that I turned into 4-day holiday by taking an extra PTO day on Monday. Also, I worked from home on Thursday and Tuesday. So... awesome relaxation! (Although, when I got back to Work on Tuesday, there was a lot of "stuff" in my Inbox. Gack!)

I worked on my Twitter feeder for twikifriends (using pyTwerp). It's working quite well.

Rich said he was nervous about the idea of feeding a twitter message through the shell even if it's going into twerp. He asked that I try to restrict things as much as I can.

  • I'm escaping $ , " , ' , and \
  • I'm wrapping the string in " "
  • I'm using sh -r
I kept hitting bugs and misunderstandings... Using a restricted shell means I needed to set the PATH, etc.

Not helping things, Twitter's friends timelines were sluggish or out completely for much of the day. I saw 3 updates in 4 hours. That made testing on live data very difficult.

But, I think everything is working as expected now. No more errors from cron.

In other techie news, I now have sortable TWiki lists I can revert with a click back to their original order, thanks to assistance from folks on the SFPerl User Group list. The code is JavaScript; we talk about languages other than Perl sometimes.

I got lunch from Long John Silvers on Monday. They blew the order. Twice!

They gave me the cole slaw (that I didn't want) and not the fries instead. I caught that in time and went back in. But I didn't open the box and count... so when I got home I was missing the extra chicken plank.

They screwed up last time too; last time they left out the bisquits. So this is twice I've gotten home and don't have food that I paid for. I guess I need to start opening and counting the order before I leave the restaurant. And, like Burger King, I need to not give them too many variables. :( I like the food but the staff is insufficiently careful.

I've been reading "back issues" of Twitter. I'm up to July 7. My Twitter Reader is working well.

On Thursday, our morning train was delayed for 25 minutes just after leaving the station (we were about 200 yards away). Apparently they had a cracked rail and were single tracking. Ugh. Still, better than running on it.

We stopped in at Barnes & Noble after dinner, Friday night. Unfortunately, the new Monk book I wanted is in hardcover. :( Fortunately, there were many other choice to console me. :)

This week I read Mr. Monk in Outer Space by Lee Goldberg.

In between and around the rest, I've had nearly enough naps and oodles of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've chatted with my sister and found topics to twitter.

Onward and Upward.
