From Microhoo to Lunch
In the wake of the Yahoo!-MicroSoft brouhaha, Yahoo! CEO Jerry Yang wrote
there's a reason why we're the only fortune 500 company with an exclamation point at the end of our name, and now is the time to demonstrate what that exclamation point stands for. |

To which a friend of mine responded: What about Yum! Brands? (OK, you could say that the ! is in the middle but the logo is Yum!).
Yum! owns several fast food favorites, including Pizza Hut, KFC, and Long John Silver's. |

Long John Silver's is America's largest quick-service seafood chain with over 1200 units worldwide. The first Long John Silver's Fish 'n' Chips opened in 1969.
Long John Silver's was a favorite of mine when I lived "back east". My family first discovered them in upper New York state, then later, one opened in our home town in Pennsylvania.
Based out of Kentucky, Long John Silvers has been predominantly an "east-coast" restaurant. This is unfortunate for me, as I now live in California. In the past, the "nearest" LJS to me was way out in Stockton, CA, many hours' drive. Much too far for lunch.
A co-worker, another former Pennsylvanian, commenting on the ! discussion, took a look at the yum.com web site. Then he said
"Oh Wow! There's a Long John Silver's in San Jose now."(That's only an hour away :-)
This prompted me to do a search of my own. And whaddyaknow! There's now a Long John Silver's in South San Francisco, about 10 minutes from my house. W00t!
Guess what I had for lunch today. :-)
Should I send Jerry Yang a thank you note?
