Weekly Wrap-up 2008_18

The weather was lovely, with wind speeds ranging from 1.3 mph to 15 according to our new wireless anemometer (installed Tuesday morning.)

We had a small flood on Sunday. A fresh water bottle apparently leaked. Five gallons of water soaked into the rug in the downstairs room before I realized what was happening. Ooh. Splugh.

Good news, no wood subfloor down there. It's concrete with linoleum tile over top.

I blotted with towels, as much as I could, then left the carpet to air dry. I set the ceiling fan running on high. It took a couple of days before the room stopped smelling like wet dog.

The rug is a bit water-stained now but it was never a great rug to begin with — just a remnant installed for added warmth and cushioning.

There was a sweet Mallard duck couple at the Caltrain station two days this week. The male nibbled my fingers. I broke off pieces of a peanut butter cereal bar for them. I like ducks.

This week I coded Perl. :-)

One of the things I like about this Job is that there are just enough programming opportunities to keep me happy without actually having "programmer" in my job description. I wrote a script to convert an indented (TWiki) bullet list into an HTML table. Once we get the design of the table finalized, we'll convert about 20 pages to the new format.

A friend just started work at new company. She cannot use Yahoo! IM (it's explicitly blocked) but she can use Jabber (GoogleTalk), AIM and/or Skype. It's not IM in general that they're blocking.

Like me, she has accounts with all these services, so it's mostly a minor inconvenience. But notably interesting, nonetheless.

I have tuned my Twitter preferences to not show replies to people I don't follow. I don't have quite the same opportunities to maybe find new people to follow, but this cuts way down on the traffic. It also makes the posts I do see more interesting (at least, to me).

I've also started using Twitterific to read my twitterstream. If only it had a color choice that isn't white and gray on black. :-( I want options!

This week I read Night of Madness, by Lawrence Watt-Evans; Guardian of Honor, by Robin D. Owens; and Punching In, by Alex Frankel.

In between and around the rest, I've had nearly enough naps and oodles of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've chatted with my sister and found topics to twitter.

Sitting on the couch with Squirrel. There is cat hair on the trackpad of my laptop...

Onward and Upward.
