Weekly Wrap-up 2008_15

The weather has been cool in the mornings, warm in the afternoons, and windy at night.

April is Boston Creme pie month at Bakers' Square. Boston Cream is my favorite "cake". Bakers' Square makes an especially good version. The bottom layer is chocolate.

Our hot tub has a leak somewhere. Rich has been trying to find it and fix it. So far, no luck. Sigh.

On Monday I discovered that my Documents and Applications folders were gone on my portable hard drive. Yes, I'm doing regular backups. The Friday backup ate the directories - source and target both. OUCH.

Monday was a bad day. Once I write something down in my "trusted system", it's not in my head anymore. A lot of Monday was spent wondering what I had done last week and what I was supposed to be doing now. Second "shortest status report on record".

I'm going to change to writing my status report at end of day Friday.

Tuesday was a special election day here. Our congress person died and we needed to vote for a replacement.

Or so we thought... It turns out that there will be another "primary" election in June (for the same congress seat) with the "real" election in November.

We have GOT to fix the voting process. This "driving to a school cafeteria" and using poor technology 3 or 4 times a year is really getting wearing.

We had a followup vet visit this week. Bebop got his teeth cleaned (moooooooo). He wasn't having any of it, so the vet gave him a pain killer shot. Things went pretty swiftly after that.

Our vet said Beeps might be a little wobbly for a few hours. He didn't mention Very Loving. I guess Bebop was feeling pretty good after that shot.

At the Job... Most of my co-workers have two computers - a laptop and a desktop development system (BSD or Linux). I do not. When I got my Mac G5, I gave the BSD development box back. I don't have a laptop. But sometimes it would be useful to also have a laptop to take to a meeting or use for a presentation. ...

A week or so I sent a note to the Company IT team, saying this and asking if it would be possible to get a laptop too. I'd be happy to accept an "older" system. It won't be my day-to-day system.

On Thursday, two IT guys appears in my cube with a MacBook Pro. Oooh. 17". That will be nice for meetings. Next time, I can drive the projector.

This week I read Through the Tiger's Eye, "young adult" fantasy by Kerrie O'Connor; Bedlam's Edge, a collection edited by Mercedes Lackey and Rosemry Edghill; Midnight Alley, The Morganville Vamipres #3 by Rachel Caine; and Dog Days, urban fantasy by John Levitt. I also finished Beka Cooper: Terrier, by Tamora Pierce — highly recommended.

In between and around the rest, I've had nearly enough naps and oodles of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've chatted with my sister, exchanged email with my mom, and found topics to twitter.

Onward and Upward.
