Weekly Wrap-up 2008_10

The weather continues to be springy and pleasant. March does not come in like a lion in Northern Coastal California.

I returned my bad hard drive for a replacement. This time I'm going with Firewire, not USB. I've also greatly improved my backup strategy!

I had an interesting project come my way at the Job. It needed quick turnaround which I provided.

I continue to help more people with TWiki. On Wednesday, someone asked, on the internal twiki-users mailing list:

In edit mode, the forms are located at the bottom of the page. So for many pages, the form is not seen because it is below the screen. Would it be possible to have the forms at the top of the page, and not at the bottom?

This is most easily changed in the global template, but not everyone would want that changed. (For example, I would not want it changed!)

But one of our admins suggested

I'm willing to bet someone a donut that you can control this preference (top or bottom) with a template at the web level. That way the site setting will be unaffected. I'll see if I can come up with a working example this weekend if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Less than an hour later I had a solution that can be used for a single page. (I like donuts. :)

I ordered an Asus Eee PC a week or so ago and it arrived on Wednesday. Cute little thing. Runs Linux. I'm going to try carrying it in my backpack. It weighs less than half what my 12" Mac laptop weighs.

One of our local restaurants has new bill folders. I don't know what these were designed to be used for but they shouldn't be used near credit cards. There's a magnetic "clip" at the top to hold a piece of paper! (The clip says "Welcome", not "Thank you", so I don't think they're designed for bills. But what?)

This week I read Ghost Hunter and Silver Master, two paranormal science fiction romance suspense novels by Jayne Castle. The former is dedicated "To heroic dust bunnies everywhere and to those who admire them." I want a dust bunny!

I also read Blood Bound and Iron Kissed, fantasy mysteries by Patricia Briggs.

In between and around the rest, I've had nearly enough naps and oodles of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've chatted with my sister, but I am sadly behind on twittering.

Onward and Upward.
