Weekly Wrap-up 2008_07

The weather has been springy. The ornamental plums have started bursting out in pink blossoms.

My schedule was unusual this week. I typically work from home on Tuesdays but I had a scheduled meeting this week. I tried to reschedule, but the other people were booked tightly, so I obliged and swapped my work-from-home day for Wednesday.

Of course, the meeting was postponed at the last minute. No one could figure out how to contact me. So... sigh.

Note to self: pay more attention to the urgency of the meeting than to its potential interest value when rearranging schedules.

Top 5 questions on the Company Intranet:

  1. How do I update my profile info in the directory?
  2. Where do I find property contacts?
  3. Where is the Cafeteria Lunch Menu?
  4. How can I Update my Intranet Password?
  5. Where can I find forms?
I think #3 says something about people...

I ran across an interesting bug in our department intranet. A Twiki page looked very odd — there was no left bar, no top bar... none of the expected UI chrome at all. I eventually found the bug, a section that read:

The most obvious such context is of the form
< script src="/path/to/resource" />
On the View page, the text stopped at "of the form" and went off the road and over the cliff, as it were. the "< script..." section was an example and should have been placed in a verbatim block. Instead, TWiki thought it was code, handed it to JavaScript, which tried to parse it and got indigestion. Aieeeeeeeee.

On Thursday and Friday I attended the TWiki Community Summit - 2 days of discussions organized for TWiki Community members. The overall goal is to have lots of face-to-face time to get to know each other more and to develop an agreed on roadmap. I believe the goal was met.

On Thursday evening, Rich and I joined some of the other attendees for a pleasant dinner. Friday's meeting was followed by the second Silicon Valley TWiki User Meetup. I had a good time on both days and I learned a lot, but my brain is full and a three-day weekend is most welcome!

This week I read Fright of the Iguana, a "pet sitter" mystery by Lynda O. Johnston.

In between and around the rest, I've had nearly enough naps and oodles of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've chatted with my sister and found topics to twitter.

Onward and Upward.
