Weekly Wrap-up 2007_44

End of October
The sleepy brown woods seem to
Nod down their heads to the Winter.

- Dan Fogelberg

We've had a lot of fog.

Rich has started taking the train to and from his Job. We can ride together for his leg of the trip.

We bought a "hex bug" at Radio Shack. It's cute. It walks around on 6 legs makes a nice scrabbly sound on the kitchen floor. It backs up when its antenna hit something. It doesn't do very well on carpet.

The cats weren't quite sure... Bebop patted at it once; he patted the antenna, so it reversed. It kept running into Raven. Mezzaluna watched from a safe distance. (Squirrel was napping in the other room.)

Apparently I had not been deleting any of the mail on the server at Work. We migrated to a new server (Exchange IMAP) in September and I discovered, this week, that I had 6000 messages marked as deleted but still stored on the server.

I've switched over to POP (after deleting 5500 messages).

On Halloween, I wore black shirt with a decorative collar and cuffs and my Hallmark candy corn & pumpkins necklace.

I put two loops of thread on a black t-shirt for Rich so he could hook on a furry spider.

We had a three-hour, mandatory, Corporate Strategy and Culture meeting at The Company. Rah.

Rich had a conference call that he recorded on a little USB recorder. Then we spent several hours, and enlisted the help of a friend, to get the recording off of the device and onto the computer.

The software is Windows-only. We were hoping that we could install that under Virtual PC and I did. The software is fine. But the hardware wasn't being recognized.

So, Rich called a friend who lives across town. He came and picked up the recorder. His "real" Windows system could see the hardware. He copied the file and cut a CD. But Virtual PC said the CD was corrupted and cannot be read.

So then the friend tried to upload the file. He doesn't have FTP... I made him an account in our TWiki. Then I reconfigured the TWiki to accept a large attachment.

Finally... success!

This week I read but didn't finish any books worth remembering. I've been reading some magazines in the train - mostly Wired and Fast Company. I realized that I never took the time to read these at home but I had a great opportunity in the train.

In between and around the rest, I've had nearly enough naps and oodles of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've chatted with my sister, found topics to twitter, and exchanged email with my Mom.

Onward and Upward.
