Weekly Wrap-up 2007_26

The weather was lovely.

CalTrain had a very bad day on Thursday. First they had a bunch of "control points" fail on the line — the things that set the track indicators and signal lights. They were setting things by hand.

Then, in the afternoon, the 365 northbound hit a car on the tracks in Palo Alto. The 365 is the train I take if I leave work at 4:11 instead of 4:30. (I wasn't on the 365 on Thursday).

When I got to the station at about 4:50, they didn't yet know about the accident. They did know about the signal problems; the loudspeaker was announcing that all trains were delayed 10 - 40 minutes. My train showed up about 5:10 (scheduled for 4:57). I got on... and it didn't go. Then they announced that there had been a "trespassing incident" to the north and all trains were stopped for an unknown period of time.

I called Rich and he said he'd drive down. I got off the train, found a shady spot to sit, and read my book. Periodically, there would be an announcement. The trains were delayed indefinitely.

Rich arrived about an hour later (6:20). He'd come down Central, parallel to the tracks. He said there were a bunch of police cars and emergency vehicles blocking lanes south of California Ave.

We drove down to Cupertino and had dinner at the Outback. We got home about 8. News reports indicate that I would have gotten home around 8:30 if I had waited for the train.

Ouch.

Our local diner was playing The History Channel on Saturday morning: America Eats: Barbecue . No sound, but lots of interesting video clips of Kingsford charcoal production, Weber bbq grills, and people eating.

In the news: Giant penguins may have roamed Peru.

Tux. Live!

This week we watched Mission Impossible: II on DVD. It had a bit too much "meaningful eye contact" between the male and female leads at the beginning, but the story picked up in the second half.

I read Furies of Calderon, by Jim Butcher. It's an excellent "genre debut".

In between and around the rest, I've had almost enough naps and plenty of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've had a few chats with my Sister and a telephone call with my Mom and Dad.

Onward and Upward.
