Weekly Wrap-up 2007_05

The weather was nice this week. Spring is coming. Our ornamental plum tree is blooming. It's really budding out this year. I wonder if the cold snap was good for it.

I had a teeth-cleaning appointment this week. I took the iPod and headphones. Once I figured out how to make the iPod play (I usually run it via iTunes) I clamped on the headphones and just tried to ignore the scratching and the ouch! that hurts.

Don't tell my dentist... A co-worker brought in a 10 lb Guittard dark chocolate bar on Monday. It's very good chocolate. We're working through it slowly; there's still half of it left a week later.

It turns out that it's the Guittard factory I can smell sometimes in the mornings in the train station parking lot. Inhale. Breathe deep.. Awwwwwwwwww.

I stopped at the gas station one afternoon, on my way home. There was a man filling a blue Scion xB at the next pump. I asked "Do you love yours as much as I love mine?" and we chatted. They bought theirs in June 2005, from the same Toyota dealership.

When he got back into his car, I heard him telling his wife "She bought her Scion about the same time we bought ours, ..."

Need I mention they weren't "20-somethings" any more than we are? Toyota really made a mistake about the market for this car.

We tried a new restaurant, a Greek pizzeria. They have gyros. It's nice to have gyros near our house. I think we'll go back and maybe try the pizza next time.

It's "focal review" season at The Company That Employs Me. They use a web-based tool with forms to fill in. The language is stilted businesspeak (egregious bafflegab).

Execution oriented, strong at operationalizing goals and strategies, with a greater focus on effectiveness vs. efficiency, and gets stuff done in a way which is consistent with our values. Helps others understand the purpose of the goals and the call to arms.

This week I read Mr. Monk and the Blue Flu, a detective novel by Lee Goldberg and Rescuing Rose, light fiction by Isabel Wolff.

We watched Mystery Woman: Snapshot on DVD; it's like watching a mystery novel.

In between and around the rest, I've had almost enough naps and plenty of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends.

Onward and Upward.
