Recommending Lawrence Block

Is This Supposed to be A Positive Recommendation?

The following review quote was on the back cover of a book we recently purchased:
Die-hard Block fans who have read every title in his Matthew Scudder and Bernie Rhodenbarr series will cheer the return of Evan Tanner, the globe-trotting, adventurous insomniac... readers will enjoy Block's trademark humor and comic characters".

— Library Journal

This seems a bit offputting to me. We like Lawrence Block. We enjoy his Bernie Rhodanbarr novels. But "die-hard fans... who have read every title" seems like the wrong slant for a cover blurb. It's as if the Library Journal is saying that only the truly obsessive existing fan would want to read this particular book.

So, instead, I'll say:

Do yourself a favor. If you haven't yet discovered Lawrence Block, try one of his novels. Bernie Rhodenbarr is a burglar with an odd ethical streak. Matthew Scudder is a Private Investigator, a bit darker at the core. Evan Tanner is "the thief who doesn't sleep". None of them are men you'd invite into your home, but they're all fun reads. So, grab a book, put your feet up, and discover Lawrence Block's sometimes quirky, always interesting, cast of characters.
