Treasures 2006_05

Memory is the diary that we all carry about with us.
-- Oscar Wilde

Treasures are positive things that strike my fancy, that make me feel happy or thankful or interested. Treasures are memories encapsulated in just a few words. These are my Treasures for the past week. This week I even have photos!

  • The large (pint) jars of pickled ginger on each table at a Japanese restaurant we passed (we should try this place!)

  • Three Great Egrets sighted standing alongside along HWY 280 (as we were driving down the Peninsula). [photo; the photo is from the web, taken of an actual Stanford egret, but not by me.]

  • Ground squirrels on the Stanford campus

  • The Tromp L'oiel paintings on buildings in Palo Alto. Today we saw one in which two little green ETs are going up a stairway behind a building.None of it, not even the stairway, is "real". [photo]

  • The Palo Alto United Methodist Church, which resembles something out of a Disney movie. [ photo]

  • An interesting sculpture surrounding the entrance to a building we passed. The sculpture commemorates the history of transportation, from foot, to horse, to carriage, to automobiles through the decades... [photo1, photo2]

  • The look of the new downtown Palo Alto parking garage. [photo]

  • The yellow Volkswagon beetle belonging to a local carpet shop - the rear end was decorated as if there was a carpet hanging out of the trunk (is that the trunk on a VW?)

  • A Suzuki X-90 - such a funny little squashed-looking automobile

  • A boy wearing heelys, skating ahead of us in a parking garage.

  • A birthday call from my parents

  • An owl wafting over the highway, highlighted by the street lights, as we drove to dinner

  • Softly snoring kitties

  • A woodrat, up close and personal, in the birdfeeder!

  • My neck feels so much better after an adjustment! (it really hurt two days ago)

  • The bank teller wishing me a "Happy Birthday"
