Animusic 2

Although perhaps not as entrancing as its predecessor, Animusic 2 (available on DVD) is still worth watching.

Nothing in the sequel comes close to the ethereal sounds of Aqua Harp, from Animusic. Nevertheless, there are good points. I liked Starship Groove and Cathedral Pictures a lot. The instrument in Resonant Chamber was quite interesting, although Rich was disappointed that some of its sections (the harps) went unplayed.

I'm afraid that I thought Pipe Dream 2 didn't add much over the original Pipe Dream (in my opinion) although, as I said to Rich, "after all, they already had the set plumbed ...". :-) And, while we both liked Pogo Sticks, we agreed that it went on for longer than necessary.

We were also, both, somewhat disappointed to discover that there are so few innovations apparent in this set. Much of the music sounded similar to my ear, and the majority of the instruments are strings or percussion, reminiscent of the earlier work.

If the artists are considering Animusic 3, I hope they'll try something different. More wind instruments, perhaps, or new and strange instruments unlike those known on earth. How about an instrument that emits bubbles of air, smoke, or water, that play as the bubbles rise and pop? Or something akin to an alien bagpipe? How about some multi-belled brass instruments, or coiled pipes, or even trombones?

Still and all, I recommend Animusic 2 to anyone who likes Animusic. If you don't know anything about either, and are trying to choose, I recommend you purchase Animusic first.
