Daisy Dalrymple
Turn back the clock to January, 1923...
The Hon. Daisy Dalyrymple, daughter of a viscount, is a working girl, living in London's bohemian Chelsea district (much to her mother's expressed chagrin). Her father perished in the 'flu epidemic; her brother was killed in the trenches during the war. A distant cousin has inherited the title and the estate. Daisy is on her own, living frugally, just making ends meet thanks to a small inheritance and her new writing job.
Her big assignment for Town and Country magazine is a series on Stately Homes. Her connections (a former school acquaintance) have wangled an invitation to Wentwater Court, as guest / journalist. Daisy plans to interview the inhabitants and take lots of photographs. But when another guest drowns in the skating pond, Daisy's journalistic mind turns to interrogation and detection.
Twelve books later, Daisy is still in topping form. The dialogue is lively, the people and places are interesting and real, the plots are intriguing and just a bit... unexpected. Settle in with a cup of tea and a cozy British mystery from a bygone era.
Start with: Death at Wentwater Court, the first Daisy Dalrymple mystery by Carola Dunn (1994; reprinted, Oct. 2000).
