Weekly Wrap-up 2006_01
We started out with rain but the weather cleared by the end of the week.
It was a quiet week. We did a little shopping - a cushion for Rich's desk chair, pull chains for some ceiling fans, a trip to the bookstore (because we were nearby :-)
The ceiling fans are in our favorite diner. The ceiling is high and the original pull chains were short and it was difficult for patrons or staff to turn down the fans if they were blowing too strongly. So, being the sort of compulsively helpful people we are, we bought a 36 inch chain and some attachment doohickeys. Then Rich cut the chain in four pieces and lengthened the pullchains on the fans.
Rich continued playing Harry Homeowner by modifying the cat flap in his office door, removing the heavier outer piece of vinyl. Now the cats only have to push on the inner flap. Squirrel has been going in and out daily, usually in the morning to let Rich know that he's starving.
Although the most recent Discardian holiday was in late December, we celebrated a bit late (which is perfectly in tune with Discardia).
...bear in mind that obligation is anti-discardian, so you can do whatever suits you - including celebrating Discardia when it isn't Discardia. We gathered up a lot of stuff we no longer want, need, or use, and donated it to the Cancer Research Society when they sent the truck down our street.
I've been having fun with Movable Type plugins. I now have "relative times" on my weblog entries (e.g. "before noon", "after dinner"). I also have a periodically-updated local weather report in the side bar.
I had a telephone interview this week. The job sounds like it would be a lot of fun and very much my sort of thing. Wish me luck as things proceed!
This week I finished Paladin of Souls, by Lois McMaster Bujold. This was a chewy one; I kept putting it aside for a bit while I read something else.
I also read four "Bernie Rhodenbarr" books by Lawrence Block: Burglars Can't be Choosers, The Burglar Who Liked to Quote Kipling", The Burglar Who Traded Ted Williams, and The Burglar Who Painted Like Mondrian. Bernie (the burglar in the title) is fun and funny. Read carefully; if you blink you'll miss something.
Finally, I read You've Got Murder, the first book in Donna Andrews' series about Turing Hopper, AIP (Artificially Intelligent Personality). I really like Turing and am looking forward to the next books in the series (currently there are two more).
In between and around the rest, I've had almost enough naps and plenty of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. Rich is getting quite good at making stuffed chili burgers — they're easy to prepare and yummy to eat!
Onward and Upward.
