Weekly Wrap-up 2005_49
The weather was very pretty early in the week, overcast by the end. Autumn.
I had my interview call from the California EDD (unemployment services). So that's moving forward.
I applied for more jobs. I've had one phone interview. Nothing further.
We went for a nice 2 mile walk on the lower Sawyer camp trail. We saw deer by the road on the drive down and again on the way back. There were lots of scrub jays and little brown birds along the trail. Also three bunnies (two chasing each other) and a Steller's Jay.
At one point I came up to Rich, standing, looking at the side of the trail. He said "There were a bunch of birds here a few minutes ago but they left". I looked and said "Nooooo, they're still here. He blinked and there they were, in the fence and the branches of the bush behind the fence. They had done the "you don't see me" trick.
There have been lots of little brown birds at the feeder on the back porch. The "bird cage" keeps out the pigeons and most of the blackbirds. This is good because the blackbirds, in a flock, intimidate the little brown birds.
We tried a "new" local pizzeria. It was... OK. The cheese was nice and brown and Rich thought the sauce was tasty (I said "There was sauce?"), but the crust didn't cook enough. They use one of those radiant heat ovens where the pizza moves through on a conveyor. It's like a big toaster oven. It does a great job broiling the toppings but it doesn't bake the crust.
Our problem is that the World's Best Pizza place is in San Francisco. But we would love to find the World's Second Best Pizza closer to us... we tend to want pizza on foggy rainy evenings - not a good time to drive into The City.
This week I read Undead and Unappreciated, latest in the "Betsy, Queen of the vampires" book by Mary Janice Davidson (these are silly and fun.). Also Jennifer Scales and the Ancient Furnace, a "young adult" fantasy by MJD, co-authored by her husband, Anthony Alongi.
There's a new book in the Jack Field (ex-cop and dog trainer) and Jamie Cutter series by Lee Charles Kelley. It's called Twas the Bite Before Christmas. Try these; they keep getting better.
Just Like Heaven, by Marc Levy, is a light, pleasant, paranormal romance. It's now a movie; I expect to rent the DVD.
I loved After Dark and After Glow, by Jayne Castle. These are delightful cross-genre scifi future fantasy paranormal romance mysteries. (I wonder how the cats would feel about sharing their home with a dust bunny!)
Finally, I read The Cluetrain Manifesto, by Levine et al. I don't know how I missed this originally; it's came out (first as a web site) in 1999. Anyway... Wow. Now I understand why I have so rarely liked any of my jobs! :-)
In between and around the rest, I've had almost enough naps and plenty of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals (Rich has been cooking) and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've e-chatted with my Dad and exchanged email with my Mom and sister.
Onward and Upward.
