Weekly Wrap-up 2005_42
This was a difficult and confusing week. I managed to walk Through the Looking Glass at my job and into my own personal version of The Invasion of the Pod People.
I don't remember Monday. In the blur that was Tuesday, Monday was lost.
On Tuesday, I tried for compromise. Those "on the other side of the table" listened politely, read my proposal, set down the papers and told me This Is How Things Are Going To Be.
On Wednesday, I alerted my current client that things were going awry. I asked him to please let the Powers That Be know if he thought I was doing a good job for him. He wrote a positive note on my behalf.
On Thursday, I continued working and planned for several upcoming meetings.
On Friday I was informed that my job had been vaporized and my presence was no longer required.
A few weeks ago I read a book entitled "Optimistic Organizations". I've decided that the thing that really separates Optimists from Pessimists is that Optimists have not (yet) been badly hurt. It's not "paranoia" if They really are out to get you.
This week I read Champagne for One, a Nero Wolfe mystery by Rex Stout. I also read three Daisy Dalrymple mysteries by Carola Dunn: To Davy Jones Below, The Case of the Murdered Muckraker, and Mistletoe and Murder.
The dialog in The Case of the Murdered Muckraker is very interesting, not only combining Daisy's normal speech with how she's heard by the Americans, but adding the 20's slang of the New York police, the multisyllabic vocabulary of Daisy's American editor (which Daisy unconsciously adopts when speaking with him), the lilt of the Irish maid, and more. Most entertaining.
In between and around the rest, I've had almost enough naps, hugs from Rich and snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and supportive conversations with my most wonderful Spouse and friends.
The hallways between doors closed and doors opened can be long and dark... Send bright thoughts.
Onward and Upward.
