Color Copier
Our photocopier started getting over-sensitive a while back. First copies came out with a greyish tinge... then greyer... and greyer. Eventually they were becoming pretty much unreadable. As this was an "all-in-one" unit (copier, fax, etc) the faxes were having similar problems. We finally broke down and decided to buy a new copier.
Before we went to the store, we talked about what we needed. We already have a printer. We already have a scanner. We don't really need a fax machine. Supposedly Mac OS X has built-in fax software. We really only need a copier.
Hah.
We were... naive. If you can still buy a single-function unit, you can't do so at Office Depot.
We got a Brother MFC 5440-CN multi-function color fax / scanner / copier / printer. It cost $150. It can run on the LAN (which means Rich can print to it from his office and I can print to it from mine).
The print quality is pretty good. It has separate ink cartridges for the different colors.
C O L O R S
We can make color copies (ooooh. aaaah.). It's most cool.
I remember a conversation I had with Rich some 15 years ago. I said "You know, they should make a scanner that's also a copier. They'd share the glass plate and the light beam. Heck, why not put a printer into it too. They all use paper and toner."
Color copies in our house. Whiz bang cool.
