Weekly Wrap-up 2005_34

The weather was fair. Sunny even! Gosh.

We had good net connectivity all day Monday and all week. Yes!

I got a huge email letter from my Mom. I guess because she was too busy to write all summer she had a lot to say!

We had dinner at our favorite pizzeria on Tuesday. The kitchen goofed and put mushrooms on the entire pizza (we ask for mushroom free on one half) so the waiter had them make another small pizza without mushrooms. We had a Lot of pizza! We gave a third of the leftovers to a friend of ours.

At lunchtime Thursday, there was a grey squirrel at the feeder and also a pigeon. Except, of course, the pigeon was on the outside of the barrier and the squirrel was on the inside. This upset the pigeon most dreadfully. The pigeon kept fluttering over and hanging off the bottom wire of the barrier, flapping its wings madly. The squirrel would take a seed, then turn and eat the seed while watching the pigeon, turn and take a seed, turn back to the pigeon and eat the seed.

I swear the squirrel was saying "nyah nyah".

I installed Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) this week. I hadn't installed it before because I need the Cisco VPN client for Work and it was still in Beta for Tiger. Unfortunately, ever since the upgrade, I've had problems. The worst are that my cursor keeps freezing... and I've crashed well over half a dozen times. :-(

On Friday morning, I broke down and ordered a PowerMac G5. It will be here next week. Cross your fingers that whatever is wrong will not transfer to the new system.

The Company that employs me moved offices this week — just across the street, but still, a major endeavor. Everyone had to be out of the old building by 3:00pm on Friday. Mucho work for everyone to pack (or dispose of) everything.

I did a lot of support work for the move, creating and maintaining the internal Move Information web site (starting three weeks ago).

The IT group is to be commended. The Company Intranet was back up on Saturday morning as promised. Now everyone gets to come in on Monday and unpack. (Shudder!)

On Friday night, I had dinner with a friend at Fresh Choice (Rich was away). We got there at 8:45pm and since closing time is 9:00 we got $1.50 discount on the meal. Neat! I ate all the same things and we weren't pressured to leave earlier than we would have. And we saved money.

The ironic thing is, the friend was late because he went back to print out some $1 off coupons. Which we didn't need because we were so late. But if he hadn't taken the extra time, would we have been late enough for the discount? Or would we have paid the normal price?

I hear laughter...

I learned some nifty new things about HTML, CSS, and JavaScript this week, including how to make table cells "act like" clickable buttons. Cool!

I've been giving the Company Intranet a makeover.

This week I read Slip Cue, by Joyce Krieg. I didn't like it as much as her first book; I thought this one dragged and started to fall apart in the middle. I gave up and skipped forward to the end. Life is too short to read mediocre books.

I also read Nothing to Fear but Ferrets, the second pet-sitter mystery by Linda O. Johnston. This was fun. If you like animals and mysteries, try these.

In between and around the rest, I've had almost enough naps and plenty of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've had a few chats with my Dad and email from my Mom.

Onward and Upward.
