Weekly Wrap-up 2005_01
The first full week of 2005 has been off and on rainy and clear (somewhat more rainy than clear).
My new calendars arrived (I was a little late ordering a few of them). My office calendar this year is the Proverbial Cats wall calendar.
We've got a World Wildlife Fund songbirds calendar in the bathroom (pretty) and various other calendars around the house. The kitchen calendar, for the 5th or 6th year running, is Sandra Boynton's infamous Mom's Family Calendar (Who goes Where and When but not Why).
I renewed my drivers' license this week (it expires the end of this month). Because I have renewed twice previously by mail, this time I had to come in for a new picture and thumbprint. I gave myself plenty of time to get there and stand in the check-in. In fact, had so much time that I stopped off at Krispy Kreme (across the street) and bought a dozen pumpkin spice cake donuts (I froze 10 of them when I got home).
At the DMV, it turned out I was still 15 minutes early for my appointment and there was no lone. But I had brought a book to read. When they called my number, I gave them my check, read the eye chart, signed a bunch of papers, pressed my thumb onto a lighted glass plate (new technology), had my photo snapped with a too-bright flashbulb and came home. The new license should arrive in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, the old license is still good.
I moved all of my weblog notification lists to the new Google Groups (Beta) this week. I think this will be an improvement over the previous majordomo lists.
When the DMV did the "cover your eye and read..." test, my right eye wasn't in focus, so I made an eye appointment for Friday. The optometrist has some nifty new technology for looking into the eye.
Saturday night was the Company holiday party, yclept "The Wrecking Ball" (black tie or sledgehammer optional). I introduced Rich to a lot of my co-workers. One friend took the invitation very much to heart he wore a white t-shirt with the sleeves cut out, faded jeans, knee pads, a yellow hard hat, full tool belt and eye goggles. Several men wore tuxes; many wore suits. Black was a popular color. One woman from marketing was stunning in a red sequined dress. Wow!
Rich and I both wore black jeans, black shirts and our Mac OS X leather jackets. I think we both looked pretty spiffy :-)
Sunday was Bebop's birthday. Happy birthday pumpkin!
This week I read Fools Puzzle, by Earlene Fowler. I'm also reading Kris Longknife - Deserter by Mike Shepherd (as with the first book in the series, take the subtitle with a big grain of salt).
In between and around the rest, I've some wonderful long naps with cats and the sound of rain as well as plenty of additional snuggles and huggies with the kitties. I've had good meals and plenty of eggnog, chats with my Dad and a friend in Texas, and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends.
Onward and Upward.
