Weekly Wrap-up (Sept 6 - Sept 12)

Monday was Labor Day. To celebrate Labor, we don't work :-) I discovered (from reading "For Better or For Worse", one of my favorite comic strips) that it was also Labor Day in Canada.

Earlier in the day, my Mom had suggested that we drive north to Petaluma to a barbeque restaurant we all like, but that seemed like a lot of driving and potential traffic (and besides, I was sleepy). So I took a nap. When I woke up again at 3:30 , driving north for barbeque sounded a lot better so we did that.

It wasn't a bad drive, although there was traffic along the ocean; In particular, there was a lot of stop and go for about a 1 mile stretch - there was a stop sign and pedestrians and U-turns. After we got through that part, though, it was pretty much clear sailing to Petaluma.

We met friends for dinner but the restaurant of choice was closed for Labor Day! Ouch. We looked at another place across the highway but it was dark, pricey, and had a 20 minute wait. So we went across the street to a Coffee Shop; this place had air conditioning, immediate seating, windows, and plenty of light. The food wasn't bad either. And our friends are happy because it's a 24-hour place on their way home from other places in the Bay Area.

There was no traffic at all driving home; we got home in just over an hour (whereas it took 90 minutes going up). We got home early enough to play a few rounds of Bonanza. That was fun. The 10-2 came up in almost every hand. I had fun guessing what poker hands Mom & Dad had. Both Rich and I got a lot of Bonanzas. We played tll 10:30, mostly cleared the board, and then to bed.

Tuesday night my parents packed to go home, but before they did that we watched "The Court Jester" (with Danny Kaye) on DVD :-)

Wednesday I slept in for an hour, then got up. Rich went off to work; Mom & Dad and I went off to breakfast. Afterwards we went back to the house for a bit, then I drove them to the airport and went in to work. We got a call at 10:30 Wednesday night from my Mom; the second leg of their flight was delayed and they got home later than expected but no other difficulties and they were glad to be on the ground again.

The rest of the week was quiet with not much to say. Back to work and "regular" hours.

I read four books by Tamar Myers this week — A Penny Urned, Nightmare in Shining Armor, Splendor in the Glass, and Statue of Limitations. That finishes up the currently published books in the "Den of Antiquity" series.

In between and around the rest, I've had several good meals, including a terrific salad at a restaurant in Noe Valley (in San Francisco) — mixed greens, goat cheese, sliced apples, pine nuts, and a cranberry vinagrette. I've had almost enough naps, good conversations, and time with my parents. I snuggled with the cats, saw my folks back to Pennsylvania, ran a few more loads of laundry and faded quietly back to normal (whatever than means) and regular work hours.

Onward and Upward.
