Weekly Wrap-up (Monday Aug 9 - Sunday Aug 15)
Rich has been out of town for much of this week, first visiting friends and then visiting his Dad. So the cats and I have been on our own. Much reading has been done along with much napping and cat snuggling.
The weather has been sunny and warm in the middle of the day, bracketed by fog in the early morning and late evening. That's summer in Beautiful Bay Area California.
I didn't put this one in last week's wrapup! How could I forget? I did put it in my treasures, though.
I petted a horse last Saturday after breakfast! He was such a nice, big, brown horse with big brown eyes and pointy ears. His horse trailer was parked in the parking lot behind our favorite diner. I walked over to say hi and he looked out at me so I let him snoof my fingers and then I scritched his nose a bit.
The Building Management company decided to resurface the parking lot behind the Company last Saturday; most of us learned about this on Monday morning. Unfortunately, a few folks found out on Saturday, to their dismay. ;-(
The Building Management didn't see fit to notify anyone at the Company until after 2pm on Friday afternoon; they only notified one person (the manager of facilities) who happened to be on vacation. They ignored the "out of office reply" on the email they sent her. They failed to notify the second person on the "notify" list. Then on Saturday, they towed any cars in the parking lot to a lot across the street. At least they didn't tow them to an impound lot. And at least it was not a Company "working Saturday" as the 14th would be (when many more people would have been in the lot!).
As you can imagine, some uproar was raised on Monday!
Being now a "regular" employee, I got to attend a day-long orientation on Monday. We had short presentations on Company organization, Domestic and International Sales, Finance, HR, Operations, and IT. 6 hours of meeting and one hour of lunch with "your manager". There were a few things I didn't know. And, as Rich says, if the Compamy wants to pay me to attend 6 hours of meetings, who am I to complain?
The Company lunch this week was a barbecue in a parklet about two blocks away. I had two turkey burgers (Costco) which were quite nice. I ate them with cheese, mayo, tomato, onion, and lettuce. No bun, no chips, no cookies. I was low carb.
I've been eating as many peaches as I can. They're heavenly and only available for such a short time. Don't tell me fruit isn't low-carb. Fruit is good for you.
There isn't much else to say. I've been working on a document for the Job. t home I've been reading and snuggling cats. The good news about fulltime employment is the income (I got paid this week :-) The bad news is there isn't a whole lot of time for other activities.
I finished Murder of a Sweet old Lady, by Denise Swanson. Our local Barnes & Nobel didn't have books 3, 4, and 5 in the set (although they did have book 6), so I ordered the missing volumes and then went back to Tamar Myers. I read The Ming and I, So Faux So Good, and Baroque and Desperate this week.
I also had a good time at the bookstore the night my books came in :-) So much to read; so little time for reading!
In between and around the rest, I've had several naps, good meals, interesting conversations with Spouse and friends, and lots of snuggles with the cats. I've "chatted" several times with my Dad aand managed to keep at least my primary weblog reasonably up to date.
Onward and Upward.
