A Toy Car for Adults
Q. What do you get when you cross a sedan with a minivan?
A. A Scion XB
We bought a new car :-)
We ordered our Scion XB on Monday July 12 but it took two weeks to come in. When we ordered it, it was still on a ship in the Pacific, somewhere between Japan and Long Beach, CA. The Scions are built in Japan and shipped to the US and they're still inexpensive as cars go.
As far as color, we were able to agree on "Black Cherry". It looks really pretty, especially in full sun (there's glitter in the paint). We bought the foglights and the cargo cover as add-ons but nothing else. No, we didn't buy the illuminated cupholder, the LED tube interior lighting kit, the carbon fiber sleeved sport shift knobs or any of the other (nearly 50) optional accessories. We didn't even buy the $120 floor mats with the embroidered Scion logo; however, we did buy a nice set of grey floor mats at Target (for $20.00) the night we took delivery of the car.
It's fun to drive. It's cute, it's comfortable, it handles well, and the visibility is excellent. It has the same "up off the road" feel as a minivan without feeling huge or bulky.
Rich says this isn't a Flintstone car, its a Tonka Truck for grownups (it does look like it would fit into the Tonka Junior line). Then again, maybe it's a Chevron car come to life. Or a microvan?

Little Boxes?
With apologies to Malvina Reynolds
Little boxes on the highways, Little boxes in the parking lots
Little boxes by the curbsides, little boxes all the same
There's a green one and a red one and a blue one and a silver one
And they all are made by Scion and they all look just the same.
It may be funny looking, but it's sure fun to drive!
