Blog Ideas. Circle of Words. Spark. Weigh-in Wednesday. The Friday 5. Saturday Slant. Participation Positives.

Have you ever wondered where people get ideas for what to write about? Have you noticed how some people's weblogs (including mine) reference a set of periodic questions and then answer them? One answer is "memes".

meme n (meem): A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another. From the Greek mimëma,something imitated, from mimeisthai, to imitate.

In Blogspeak, a meme is an idea that is shared and passed from blog to blog, like a question posted in one blog and answered in many other blogs.

[c.f. The Memes List]

Having discovered the Friday 5, I wanted to find more sites like it. One that I found in my search was most helpful — The Memes List. The Memes List was compiled by another weblogger who was looking for the same thing I was seeking. Having had a difficult time finding the available memes, he started creating a list of every one he found, and he shares that list on his website! Using this list, I've found a few more memes I want to visit regularly and quite a few I have bookmarked to visit from time to time.

I've added several under Jumpoff Points on the left-side of my main weblog page.
