I'm trying to ramp back up. I took 3 weeks off (doctor's orders) and now I'm definitely paying the price. Running is like anything else - practice and you'll get better. That's the whole idea behind 25 weeks of constant running. Practice pounding. Practice distance. Practice fueling and hydrating and shoes and clothes and all the other things I practiced for 25 weeks, and I got better. But take 3 weeks off.....
Now I have to get better again. I ran 4 miles on the treadmill on New Year's Eve. I started at a 10 minute mile and after the first mile I slowed down. I was very winded. Maybe the gym was hot, maybe I was fighting a cold. Sandra and I met at the lake this morning. It was a gorgeous day - 65 degrees, sunny, clear, not too humid or windy. We did 5 1/2. Again - I was very winded, especially at the beginning. Did we start out faster than usual? Or am I just out of practice?
The good news is, the groin is better. In fact, I didn't even feel a twinge. I need to get back into my routine - ramp up. I'll plan to run 3 times during the week and a longish run (6 miles? 7 miles?) next Saturday. I just need to get back to practicing right?
